Russell graduated from Monash University with Honours in 1986 and commenced specialist Obstetric and Gynaecology training in 1990, undertaking his training at Monash Medical Centre and the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne with a range of inspiring teachers and mentors.
His training included a particular focus on fertility treatment including IVF and laparoscopic surgery. In 1994 Russell and his family moved to the UK, working at St John's Hospital in Chelmsford.
Russell and his family returned to Ballarat and he commenced his Obstetric and Gynaecology practice in 1995. Russell established Ballarat IVF in 2002, the Ballarat Endometriosis Clinic in 2004 and with Michael Bardsley, established Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ballarat ( OGB) in 2007.
In 2021, Russell worked with the team to establish OGB Surfcoast, and Surfcoast Fertility, our Geelong based sister fertility clinic.
In 2022, with Michael, he established OGB as an AGES .training post for advanced laparoscopic and gynaecological surgery
In April 2023, he launched OVUNET, a world first, artificial intelligence software service, providing affordable Ovulation induction Online throughout Australia.
He has a strong focus on teaching of both medical students and specialist trainees, with an emphasis on team work, safety, and attention to detail in the provision of medical care.
Russell enjoys spending free time either at the beach, or in Melbourne catching up with his family including his grandchildren, who are a complete joy!
