Why consider sperm donation?

Some people are unable to conceive a child without the assistance of a sperm donor. Whether it be for reasons such male infertility, LGBQTIA+ relationship or a single person hoping to have a baby, many people rely on the generosity of sperm donors to make this dream a reality. Here at Ballarat IVF, we have a significant number of patients waiting for a sperm donor. This is often their only option to create a family.

Did you know?

  • Over decades, sperm counts are declining at a significant rate in Western countries Male factor is a leading cause of infertility for many couples.

  • Birth rates in over 80 countries are now below population replacement levels (2.1)

  • Endocrine disrupting chemicals (such as those found in plastics, shaving cream, water bottles etc) are likely to be the leading cause of the decline in sperm quality

As a result...

  • Sperm donors are urgently needed

  • Each donor can enable up to 10 individuals, or couples, with fertility problems to achieve their dreams of creating a family

  • Sperm donors can provide for heterosexual couples with male factor infertility, as well as same sex couples and couples where the male has a genetic disorder
